Recently, Baker Hughes announced that it will provide compressors for the natural gas network of the Italian company Snam to help the Adriatic line project.
The NovaLT12 gas turbine is capable of blending up to 10% hydrogen with natural gas, driving Italy's decarbonization efforts.
Baker Hughes & Co. (BKR) was selected by Snam SPA, a leading European energy infrastructure company, to supply three state-of-the-art compressors equipped with NovaLT12 gas turbines.
The contract was awarded to Baker Hughes following a public tender. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
This partnership marks an important step in reducing carbon emissions from Italy's natural gas infrastructure. It is part of the wider Adriatic Pipeline project, which aims to strengthen energy supply routes from the regions to Northern Europe.
NovaLT is characterized by the ability to blend up to 10% hydrogen with natural gas, marking a significant step forward in the decarbonization of Italy's natural gas network.
The plan involves the integration of these gas turbines into a new compressor station in Sulmona, Italy, contributing to the Adriatic pipeline. The 425-kilometre-long pipeline, which is designed to prepare for the delivery of hydrogen, is part of Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the REpowerEU program, which has the potential to be financed due to its potential environmental benefits.
The collaboration follows a series of successful collaborations, including the testing of a "hybrid" hydrogen gas turbine in 2020 and the installation of a NovaLT12 gas turbine in Italy in 2022.
